PRODUCT USES
Effortless Opening
The OpenEase Automatic Jar Opener was designed for everyone who opens jars regularly or on occasion, and it's especially helpful for those with limited hand strength or arthritis. OpenEase is the one tool no kitchen should be without because it solves a problem that frustrates everyone from time to time.
How To Use
Simply place the jar opener on top of the jar and press the "Open Jar" button. The outer arms grip the jar while the inner arms close tightly around the lid and rotate, loosening the lid effortlessly. It's that simple! Press the "Release Lid" button and the arms let go of the lid and jar. The jar opener will turn off automatically; no off button is needed. If stored in the most compact position, press "Release Lid" first to open arms wide enough to place over jar lid. Then press "Open Jar" to tighten arms around jar and open lid.
Designed By Consumers For Consumers
At Hamilton Beach, every appliance has to perform well for consumers before it ever makes it onto the shelf. As we design products, we seek out honest feedback and opinions from a variety of sources. Now that's Good Thinking.
For the OpenEase Jar Opener, we focused on handgrip, comfort, and control. We talked to The Arthritis Institute and interviewed people with dexterity issues and arthritis. As we sought their feedback about the jar opener, we left no stone unturned. How does it feel in your hand? Which location do you prefer for the buttons? How does it feel when you press them? Once we were clear about consumers' needs, we knew we had a product that would make their lives easier.
About Arthritis*
Did you know that arthritis is the most common cause of disability in the United States? Approximately 50 million Americans live with arthritis. That makes even the simplest tasks like opening jars a daily struggle. * Source: 2007-2009 National Health Interview Survey (conducted by National Center for Health Statistics).
Tips & Care
Do not use with plastic jars. Jar opener is intended only for glass jars with screw-on lids. Be sure the outer arms of the jar opener fit securely on jar to prevent slipping. The jar opener will turn off automatically when the arms reach the outermost or innermost position. For tapered jars, place hand on top of jar opener to hold firmly in place to ensure that the arms do not slip on the jar.
For more compact storage, press the "Open Jar" button to reset the arms to the innermost position. To replace batteries, press and slide the battery compartment cover in the direction of the arrow. After replacing batteries, slide the cover closed in the opposite direction of the arrow. The jar opener may start running when the batteries are installed. This is normal.

Upon recommendation by someone we know, I decided to obtain this product. A fresh jar was already on stand-by while awaiting the arrival of the Hamilton Beach miracle tool.
The day came. It arrived. Right away, I was very skeptical. There were a couple AA carbon type batteries and some inadequate instruction sheet. I figured it out and put this contraption to a smoke test. It noisily started the whole exercise. It whirred and hummed. The initially high-pitched symphony went lower and lower approaching upper bass note. Then the melody turned into a low hum and quit. So much for that. But then, all of a sudden, there was this highly welcome popping noise. Glory Be! The lid popped open. I pushed the 'Release Lid' button, and then we enjoyed the meal.
Since then, this wonder tool opened three more jars with utter ease. I highly recommend this tool. It may take you bit time to figure it out. But it does not require a Masters Degree in rocket science to do so. You do not have to contact Albert Einstein to be able to use it.
There are only two buttons- one to open the jar, and one to release the lid. When I got it, I was so excited about trying it that I didn't read the full instructions- just the quick start guide. The quick start guide does indeed tell you how the machine actually operates (just open it fully, set it on the jar lid, and press the button- the outer arms grip the jar while the inner arms twist the lid). Well, my husband grabbed the jar as an additional safety measure, but neither of us thought to grip the machine. The quick start guide didn't say anything about holding anything, so....
Anyway, the machine worked great! In about 30 seconds, it had the jar open. But, it worked a little too well. When the lid popped open, the force of the machine twisting it made the lid AND the machine fly off AND twisted the jar out of my husband's grasp. The whole jar went flying and I lost half of the juice and about a dozen olives (like I said, it was a big jar). I thought it was hilarious. Anyway, after I got everything cleaned up, I sat down and read through the actual instruction manual. Lo and behold- it tells you to grip the jar AND keep a firm grip on the machine. That would have been useful in the quick start guide. (yes, I know, you'd think common sense and all, but common sense goes flying when you're excited about something)
All in all- great little product. Slightly larger than I expected but much more easily stored than those big jar opener stands.
UPDATE: My first machine died a quick death (simply stopped working). This is most likely from the flying incident mentioned earlier, though I don't know. It was within 2 weeks of using it, and I contacted the company. They replaced it super quick, and the replacement still works very well. (I'm not sure how long ago that was, but I believe it's been more than a year.)
1. it was neither fit for big nor for small size jar, the rubber side handle broken after one month use with few uses, but surprise, it still can use after I put a tape on.
2. I kept it inside kitchen's drawer, but it automatic turn on by itself almost every time when I closed the drawer, it should design better for the on/off button, it seems very stupid, and took lots of space.
3. It died on last month finally, even I changed new battery, it
made noise only but didn't take any function at all, my husband learn a lesson, he get my advice first when buy a kitchen small tools, due to I could use a tea spoon to let an air out from the jar first and easy to open any size jar without any tool.
I will not recommend this to anyone.
