Product Description
Charcoal enthusiasts, take heart! With this Dyna-Glo vertical smoker, you can now smoke your favorite foods with your favorite wood chips AND your favorite fuel source, charcoal! Vertical smokers are ideal for capturing maximum smoke flavor, so we've included 4 height-adjustable cooking grates, with a total of 784 square inches of cooking space, to accommodate different sizes and types of food. The double door design helps minimize heat loss when access to the food or fuel is needed. The porcelain enameled charcoal chamber is designed to keep briquettes stacked tightly for improved burn efficiency and the removable steel ash pan is designed to handle large amounts of ash for hours of maintenance free cooking.

July 2017 Update - Still a great smoker - but noticed lots of peeling inside - hope its carbon, not paint!!!! Held up so far since purchase - small warping in the smoker box. After having now for two - years - I still like it. I see they've finally added a chimney on the top which will allow you to use in light rain. I think my only regret is not getting the wide body as you have to cut your longer ribs in half to get it to fit. I've found the thermometer reads much hotter than displayed off by about 50+ degrees. WiIl try to buy and aftermarket one and replace.
*April 2016 Update - still going strong - worked great even through the VA winter. Used mid winter at 20-30 degrees and smoker still maintained temps. Build is holding up - burner still going strong. No issues or concerns at all.
I researched all available LP smokers in this price range and decided on Dyna-Glo mostly based on the customer service replies noted in the comments. I've not had to call them yet.
Pros: Well built for the price; large water pan and smoke box; nice smooth burner - at low stayed at 225 and high easily climbed to 350, didn't try higher as I was seasoning; Door close nice and tight; easy to assemble. Didn't leak much smoke.
Cons: Few dings and bends from packaging, handle was bent almost flat and tab on LP unit was bent - was able to slowly bend back. As others reported, smoke box can easily fall off rails and mine did just that.
Update - 5 stars after cooking. Cooked a whole chicken, ribs and pork butt - amazing cooker for the price range!

Now to address Pros/Cons.
Pros: 1) Amazing cooking space capacity! 2) THE BEST SEAL EVER! I didn't have any smoke coming out other than the chimney on top! (Resulting in great flavor) 3) Easy to assemble 4) Regulating Temperature: once in the proper environment, away from heavy wind I could maintain 250-275 no problem for some amazing wings. 5) Minimal clean up with proper preparation. Putting a layer of aluminum foil on the bottom cooking tray as well as wrapping the water pan help minimize any cleaning after cooking.
Cons: 1) One leg is slightly shorter than the others, so I need to put a small wedge under the leg...not a big bother. 2) There is no insulation in the cooking chamber so heavy wind can impact your ability to regulate temperature. 3)
Tips and tricks: I used high heat silicone around the perimeter of the top lid where a very small gap was still present. The top is welded on the corners so this makes the chamber 100% closed. Make sure to use a mixture of woodchips and chunks to maintain your smoke. If you need to flip anything during a cook, BE PREPARED to take the whole tray out and shut the door while you flip your food! This will help with regulating temperature! You don't want to leave your door open for more than 30-60 seconds. I tried soaked and dry woodchips...didn't seem to notice a difference between the two. With two cooks down I can say that this regulates temperature very well, creates a VERY nice amount of smoke and flavor and made an outstanding bark on some chicken. Crispy wings are the best!

Top reviews from other countries
Disliked: Lack of auto temperature control with the gas....this would reduce the amount of attention required. I will have to add one. I am looking at a Robertshaw dial control. I would have 1 burner on a low setting to get the smoking chips at or near 700deg F for best smoke type.
Disliked: The unit could have had insulation with internal covering thereby saving gas during cooking;
Liked: Easily comfortable can handle full length rib rack flat down on grates and big briskets. Great size of grates;
Disliked: Initially liked the shape, size, especially length of the rib rack grate. But when I put the rib on it, the pyramid/triangular design separators, should have been higher by 1.5"-2" and these separators holders should finish on the edges at the top and bottom so that ribs don't flop down. St-Louis style ribs flop down too much. I suspect it will be better with baby back cut ribs.
Liked: Generates clean smoke. Note that clearing circular hole in center of chips is necessary for air movement in wood chip pan. Better still would be to make the bottom partially with fine stainless mesh and the top in full fine mesh with metal picture frame.
Liked: location of water over the wood chip pan. The fact that no grease/fat gets into the smoker wood chip pan and either falls into the water (this could improve with redirection baffles plate) or off to the sides and outside into 2 mini-pans. All fat should be directed to the outside - this would be a major improvement.
Getting the best smoke and deeper smoke ring would require that some charcoal(preferably with the wood chips) be put somewhere with the wood albeit a small amount.
In rapid cook sessions---over 325deg. these falling juices on hot chip coals may provide a better flavour spectrum, but not in low and slow cook offs.
In all smokers, I dislike opening the door of the smoker to spray the meat with a favorite juice. No smoker I have seen has an externally activated sprayer (must have nozel protection to avoid clogging). I wish there was a way to incorporate this in a future smoker.
No: 1 priority would be to have an insulated model
No: 2 priority would be to improve the wood chip box as indicated above, albeit maybe on one side of the box and not the other so flame and temperature could be controlled.
No: 3 priority would be to fix the design of that rib rack so St-Louis style ribs do not flop at ends and in middle.
No: 4 priority would be to get all the falling grease to the outside of the box to minimize cleaning and further reduce risk of fire with excessive rendered fat as in porc bellies.
No: 5 priority would be to add a 3-4 speed air circulating fan to minimize hot spots at both sides-left-right.
Written by a never happy and not-so-retired product designer.
I added far too much wood to smoke the first thing I tried, I just used maple sticks I got from the yard (I am in Canada, after all!) so I needed to tweak that down for the next. But it cooks a chicken, a large rack of ribs and some chops in one go.
It seems to keep temperature well, it's easy to set and forget for a while, since you have to refill the water container every couple of hours that works. In theory it's nice you can open the bottom part without letting the heat out of the top but since I keep wanting to peek in, I open the top more than the bottom :)
I think this is a pretty good starter smoker. It's easy to use and forgiving of being useless at first. I think I may use it more as an outside oven than an actual smoker, but that works well, it's a good BBQ+oven replacement.
One odd thing about this smoker is that it seems to keep vanishing from Amazon for a while. I suspect they only get a few in at a time and sell out quickly (which is a good sign!) - So if it's on here it's probably good to buy it sooner than later!
